I know that you’re busy, so I’ve taken what was originally going to be “One Big Beautiful Course” and broken it down into more manageable pieces. The goal….

Many parents today feel pressure for their preschooler to read before kindergarten. Despite how common this belief has become, it isn’t supported by research—and it isn’t an expectation of schools.

This space offers a research-informed, child-centered alternative.

Here, you’ll find simple ways to use picture books to support early literacy without rushing childhood. We focus on what truly matters in the early years: play, imagination, conversation, curiosity, and joyful experiences with language. Strong reading foundations don’t come from pressure—they grow naturally through meaningful interactions and shared stories.

I’m Michelle Robinette, a longtime classroom teacher, homeschool parent, and researcher in early literacy. With 28 years teaching reading and writing, a PhD in literacy, and experience working with leading educational publishers, my goal is simple: I want to help parents feel confident supporting literacy while still honoring their child’s development.

You are a parent, not a teacher. I want you to enjoy these precious years before your child heads off to school.

No stress. No drills. Just powerful picture books, thoughtful conversation, and a love of learning that lasts.
